The McGrath Family
Chef-Owner Seammus McGrath has a long history of making great food in the Mt Washington Valley. After working as a chef and in other culinary positions at several of the White Mountains’ most esteemed restaurants, Seammus took advantage of an opportunity to fulfill a dream and opened McGrath’s Tavern in 2011. On any given day you’ll find several McGraths on site including sister Caitlin and parents Jim and Maryellen who began the family’s White Mountain story when they met as members of a Boston-area ski club in the 1970s. McGrath’s Tavern is the culmination of everything the McGraths value about life in ski country: great food, fun times and warm hospitality.
There’s something for everyone. Chef signatures include pistachio crusted salmon, port penne pasta and Seammus’ legendary pot roast (some have driven 3 hours for this alone). Like burgers? McGrath’s are famous, voted “Top 10 Ski Town Burgers” by boston.com and “Viewers’ Choice Award” for burgers by WMUR TV! Or enjoy an appetizer like sesame crusted scallops, spicy asian wings, calamari or reuben skins, complimented by an ice cold local brew or a perfectly poured Guinness. Vegetarian? Gleuten-free? McGrath’s has you covered! And our kids menu is sure to please the little ones*.
*not a reference to leprechauns. Leprechauns are notoriously hard to please, though a few have been known to crack a smile in McGrath’s.
Seating options for everyone.
Enjoy dinner with the family or in groups. We have a casual main dining room and an intimate fireplace dining room.
Irish Tavern and Sports Bar
One of the coolest spots in the White Mountains. Lean up to the granite bar or settle in at a high top table surrounded by exquisitely crafted stone and woodwork. Watch your favorite sports on several large screen HD TVs and dance the night away to live music on select nights.
Ahhh… dining with a view! The only thing better than great food, great drinks and great friends is enjoying them all in the fresh mountain air with views of Mt Washington. Enjoy the spectacular light show put on by the setting sun as it sinks behind the Moat Mountains and Cathedral Ledge. (open in-season)
McGrath’s knows how to party!
Dance to the region’s hottest music acts every Thursday and on Saturdays during ski season.
Is it a holiday? Then there’s a party at McGrath’s! McGrath’s is famous for its Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course St Patricks Day bashes. Pajama parties, toga parties and more!
In the middle of it all!
The Mt Washington Valley is filled with ski resorts, hiking trails, rivers, lakes and summer attractions. Play hard, then eat hardy! McGrath’s Tavern is near Story Land, Attitash, Cranmore, Mt Washington Auto Road, Settlers Green outlet shopping and much more. We’re perfect for families. And we’re easy to get to — just North of North Conway Village! Many families waiting in the long line of traffic heading into town after a day of skiing or attractions stop at McGrath’s to see what we’re all about. They always leave with a smile on their faces and many come back each night of their vacation.
A special place
This farm house holds a special spot in White Mountain and even world history! In 1944, forty-four nations met in Bretton Woods at The Mount Washington Hotel for The United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference to set international financial standards following World War II. The accord wasn’t official, though, until they banged the final gavel. Where was that gavel made? Yup, right in this building which was a wood shop at the time. You’re welcome world.
In recent years, the building has been an inn and restaurant under various owners. The McGraths purchased the building in 2011, opening McGrath’s Tavern to rave reviews. Today, masterfully renovated for beauty and comfort, the building maintains a sense of rustic charm and flare worthy of its place in history.
